Georgian Trail Ontario

Find some of Ontario's most diverse landscapes on this stunning trail

The Georgian Trail is a beautiful linear multi-use trail along Georgian Bay's southern shores, extending 34 kms between Collingwood and Meaford.

Considered one of Ontario’s most diverse regions, South Georgian Bay is located only 90 minutes north of Toronto. It's also a UNESCO biosphere reserve, and is the highest point of the Niagara Escarpment.

The Georgian Trail is breathtaking in every season thanks to its snow-capped mountains, crystal blue waters, sandy beaches, and both rural and urban landscapes.

The former Northern Railway route features original tracks that were used for the transportation of goods and passengers up until it was abandoned in 1984.

Reopening in 1989 for both area residents and visitors, the Georgian Trail's hard-packed granular surface is ideal to walk or run along, plus cycle in warmer months. It's also great for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during the winter months.

There are over 30 access points, so you can hop on and hop off the trail as you please.

There are also numerous sandy beaches and conservation areas along the trail that are perfect to rest at and take in the views, such as Northwinds Beach, Peasmarsh, Council Beach, Craigleith Provincial Park, and Christie Beach.

In between Collingwood and Meaford, the trail will take you through the charming town of Thornbury. This hidden gem is home to wineries, hiking trails, the Apple Pie Trail, and a small downtown strip that's full of character.

Blue Mountain Village is also a short drive away and offers plenty of activities and things to do year-round that include its ski hills, tubing, and skating in the winter months to mountain biking and zip lining in the summer.
