MUSIC | Jeff Martin 777
Now calling Australia home, the former Tea Party frontman plays TO tonight, on tour to promote a new album, "The Ground Cries Out", which contains sounds and an aesthetic that bears a rather strong resemblance to his earlier work: Zepplinesque ethno-rock fusion, with slick production reminicent of "Achtung Baby" era U2. In recent interviews, Martin has expressed an eagerness to 'reconnect' with his Canadian audience, and hopes to do so with this tour.
Mod Club Theatre (722 College Street) 8PM $25

MUSIC | William Fitzsimmons w/ Slowrunner
Hailing from Illinois, singer-songwriter William Fitzsimmons has a modern, 'folky' sound, occasionally blended with electronics, that resembles Elliot Smith, Akron Family, and Sufjan Stevens. He is currently touring in support of a new release, "Gold In The Shadow". His tracks have been used on numerous TV shows, and he has been mentioned in all of the top music industry publications. His first album, "The Sparrow And The Crow", reached Number One on the iTunes Top Folk Albums chart. He is joined on the bill tonight by Slowrunner.
Horseshoe Tavern (370 Queen Street West) 9PM $15

MUSIC | Rocky Votolato & Matt Pond
Formerly of the popular Seattle-based band Waxwing, singer-songwriter Rocky Votolato brings his acoustic alt-country stylings to The Drake Hotel tonight for a solo show. Sharing the bill is singer/songwriter Matt Pond, who usually performs as part of Matt Pond PA, a full-blown band with diverse instrumentation hailing from NY state. Tonight will be a rare opportunity to catch both artists in a quiet, stripped down setting, where their songs can truly shine.
The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West) 8:30PM $18
