The Neighbourhood Mixtape: Come In Alone

The Neighbourhood Mixtape is a collection of newly-released songs by Toronto musicians. The mixtape is meant to celebrate Toronto's music culture and provide a forum to listen to and discover new local music.

Every Sunday, I post a five-track mixtape (along with my own mini-reflections for each track) that you can download or stream as a soundtrack for the week.

Track #1: PS I Love You, "Sentimental Dishes"

Can't wait for PS I Love You's new album Death Dreams (Paper Bag Records)? Check out "Sentimental Dreams", the new guitars-crashing, skin-smashing single from the noise-pop duo. Pre-order the album here.

Track #2: Bishop Morocco, "A Fine Line"

Bishop Morocco released their 6-track EP Old Boys (Arts & Crafts) this week, an album you should definitely listen to for all its spiralling, floral, dreamy songs like "A Fine Line".

Track #3: Swim Good, "Totally A Mess Wild"

Swim Good features a couple of folks from First Rate of People, along with others from different provinces. The uniquely layered track is part of a 7-inch release that's available for free download here.

Track #4: Charles Valois, "Spadina"

"Spadina" starts off with near-silent picking, turning into disorienting knots and threads - a wrangling mass of static and ambience.

Track #5: Blank Capsule, "Compulsion"

Blank Capsule's spectral synth-pop track "Compulsion" shakes with bruising bass and knife-edge synths. Pre-order their 7-inch album here.
