vidTO: Toronto's Techno Wizard: Jeff Milligan

Toronto's Jeff Milligan is, without a doubt, one of the most skilled techno DJs ever to call this city home. Watching him get spastic on the levels and knobs as he blends up to four records simultaneously is a thrill, and makes the dance floor go crazy. It makes me wonder if he's even human, and it's also why he's been traveling the world and gaining international notoriety.

But Jeff Milligan is also known within Toronto's techno circle for his lack of ability to keep his cool when he's performing. Several years ago at a small party just outside of Guelph, he lost his cool, stopped the music, broke records, and even picked up my turntable (but didn't throw it, thankfully). And this was after we spent about 2h with him sound and gear checking earlier that day.

This year, on New Year's Eve, Milligan was back home for a performance and although I wasn't there, I heard a lot about it. Once again, his temper got the better of him and he went into a spastic tantrum after having difficulties with the equipment. It spawned a lot of heated discussion on the Tribe Magazine event reviews forum (a discussion that drew Milligan himself into the thread).

Tonight, he's going to rip it up at Fukhouse. If you've never seen Milligan, you really should go - he's incredible. Let's hope that people go home speaking deserved praises - to the insanely good set Milligan played.
