Soweto Gospel Choir returns to Toronto

Tired of the usual indie-rock fare? Here's something sure to shake off your emo & permanently kick it to the curb. Returning to The Hummingbird Centre after a standing room only performance in 2005, the Soweto Gospel Choir will be back in 2007 to perform two shows, February 27 & 28. The choir was created in 2002 as an assemblage of the best musical talent from the many churches and communities in and around Soweto, South Africa. Their performances feature a dynamic four-piece band, and traditional dancers & drummers combining acapella, rich harmonies and tribal rhythms to lift the soul and celebrate South Africa's hopes for the future.

If you are a fan of Ladysmith Black Mambazo (the powerful vocal force behind Paul Simon's "Graceland"), the Soweto Gospel Choir is an experience not to be missed. Tickets range from $35-$75 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or in person at The Hummingbird Centre Box Office (1 Front Street East).
