Saturday July 15 - Without a doubt one of this summer's greatest outdoor concerts will be Metric's Dog Day Afternoon at historic Fork York. The entire afternoon promises to entertain with performances by Fiery Furnaces, Holy F*ck, Secret Machines and Electric 6. Saturday, July 15 - The 60s and 70s were an important period in Canada's sonic history. After the government relaxed immigration policies in 1962, the nation saw a mass influx of folk from the West Indies. Here in Toronto, many Jamaican musicians settled, as did the music of their homeland. The ska, rocksteady and reggae of Kingston melded with the soul and R&B of North America to create a new breed of funk. Badass riddims that'll get yo' booty shakin' - this is music for the soul. This Saturday, for the first time in 30 years, several of the legendary artists on "Jamaica to Toronto: Soul, Funk & Reggae 1967-74" a compilation (released today!) that's as much a history lesson as it is sonic soul food, will reunite for a free show at Harbourfront.
