GirlJam

Despite a really bad chest cold, I made my way down to the YWCA GirlJam last night at Lula Lounge. This week is YWCA's Week Without Violence didn't ya know (shouldn't every week be though?).

Hosted by Degrassi star and recording artist Andrea Lewis (who seems to be everywhere in Toronto these days), the all-female performers included Anita Majumdar, who did a small bit from her critically acclaimed Fish Eyes (I really need to check out her one-woman show); jazzy soul vocalist Kellylee Evans (she first blew me away at Honey Jam and last night was even better); and Vancity's own GreenTaRA (funk/rock/reggae/soul fusion - someone give this woman a major label deal already...she's that damn good).

Celebrating women and taking a stand against violence - it was a cool night.
