k-os Rules Urban Music Award Nominations

I didn't get a chance to attend the press conference (curse you regular day job!) but there weren't any real surprises when this year's nominees for the Canadian Urban Music Awards were officially announced.

The enigmatic k-os getting a whack of nominations (five to be exact) for his excellent Joyful Rebellion (Hip-Hop Recording of the Year)? Check.

R&B's Jully Black and Divine Brown getting the nod (R&B/Soul Recording)? Check.

Massari for New Artist of the Year? Well that was kind of surprising, but I guess not entirely unexpected.

What is surprising, is how deep the field is this year. It appears that Canada's urban industry is finally turning the corner. The awards take place in Toronto on November 29.
