Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Shortbus: Don't Be Afraid to Ask

After it sold out at TIFF, I chose to wait for the now-infamous Shortbus to hit the larger-screen rep cinemas before checking it out. Good thing, too, because the screenings at the resurrected Royal Cinema (608 College) tonight and tomorrow night at 9 p.m. both open with a Q & A from Sook-Yin Lee, so I can hear what it was like to play that married sex therapist (named Sophia) who'd never had an orgasm. And for bonus S-YL styles, how about Girl Cleans Sink? Written and directed by Lee, the 10-minute short from 2004 (also preceding Shortbus both nights) stars Jeremy Finkelstein and Lisa Ayuso as a pair whose laundromat meeting and "clumsy attempt at a sexual liaison leads to revelations, embarrassments, and a little bit of compassion." Sold.
