Charles Leech, in line for Hana

In the Queue: Charles Leech

Sure, there may be celebrities everywhere, but often the most interesting people you meet at the Toronto International Film Festival are standing in front of you in line.

Who: Charles Leech
In Line For: Hana
Years at the Festival: Three

What are some of your best memories from festivals past?
I try to see the more obscure films instead of the blockbusters, because the blockbusters will come out in theatres anyways. And I'm not much of a star-fucker anyways, so I don't feel as though I need to be in the same room as them. I saw some really strange quirky films last year that really stuck with me: one called Little Athens, set in Athens, Georgia, I think. It was just a strange, coming of age, teenager/drugs/going to a party kind of film. I just had a really strange technique to it. I've always remembered it for the whole year.

What are you looking forward to for this year's festival?
I actually have tickets for Pan's Labyrinth, which I'm pretty psyched about. And in contradiction to what I said earlier, I'm pretty excited about The Fountain, I'm a big fan of Requiem for a Dream and Pi, so I really want to see what he's done with that. Midnight Madness, of course, I'm going to virtually all of those.

Any other thoughts you have about the festival or Toronto?
I had a hard time getting tickets online yesterday: it always amazes me how they never seem to anticipate how intensely they're going to get hit in the first hour, but having said that, there weren't many disappointments for me ticket-wise. I'm really psyched, this is the beginning of my holiday.
