King Kong - Atop the Slop

I feel I should issue an apology to Mr. Jackson. Last week, prior to the opening of King Kong, I wrote about the uneasy feeling I had about his film. I imagined it would be another huge disappointment in a year when any childlike sense of wonder I once attached to huge blockbusters was all but extinguished and I used my fears to slag Jackson's latest efforts.

I was wrong. Having just seen Kong a glimmer of hope has been ignited. I found myself enjoying a blockbuster! Me! A person whose instinct is to retch at the mention of any film that has a budget over 50 million. King Kong is no masterpiece and should have been trimmed by at least 30 minutes but it was FUN! For the first time in ages, I was bouncing in my seat and whispering "That's so cool!" to my film-mates. I may even find myself lining up again for this grand big-screen experience. Excuse my lack of faith, Peter J.
