What a Girl Wants - At Caban

When I heard they'd be having one of these, I knew I had to check out Caban's 'Makeovers, Manicures and Martinis' in-store event, held last night at their flagship store on Queen St. W. I'd been to Caban parties before, and they're always well put-together events. I got there around 7:30, and I must say it was not as busy as I'd anticipated. Still lots of fashionably dressed women queuing up at the bar for the fabulous peach blossom and chocolate martinis though. Trays of sushi were gobbled up mere moments after they were rolled. And it was hard to jostle for a place at the chocolate fountain - I managed to take a picture or two before I was nudged aside by a fashionista with a sweet tooth.

The real action was at the

MAC make-up chairs and Polish Beauty Bar manicure tables. By the time I got there, there was no chance of scoring a free manicure though - apparently tickets had been given out right when the doors opened. Too bad - for those who still don't know, Polish is one of the hottest nail lounges in the city, due in equal parts to its relaxed, professional service and highly sophisticated decor.

Of course, MAC is no slouch in the beauty biz either. They had four chairs set up on the main floor, and attractive women rotated in and out of them all night, looking considerably more glam when they got up than when they sat down.

Along with all the afore-mentioned treats, Caban was also offering a discount on all items. How deep the discount was however, I'm a little unsure. The event flyer said 15%, the woman at the front door said 30%. Either way, I didn't see that many purchases going on. The event did give everyone a chance to check out Caban's Christmas offerings though.

And the gift bags? A good haul: a copy of Lou Lou magazine, two luxe body lotion samples, and three full-sized MAC products. Plus fancy Voss sparkling water bottles handed out at the door.
