The future of a Toronto grocery store chain is uncertain amid local chatter that the stores could be sold or possibly close and reopen under a new brand.

Toronto, Oakville and Thornhill shoppers are worried that they could lose one more option for  groceries, as Organic Garage, who proudly offer "healthy food for less," pursues a court-approved sale of their various locations.

The possible sale and changes comes as a surprise to devoted shoppers, who rely on the chain's four locations in Toronto and the GTA for affordable certified organic goodies in the city.

Well, affordable by Ontario standards, at least.

Unfortunately, Organic Garage's reign as a source of budget eats on the west side of Toronto might just be coming to an end.

Lawyers representing Organic Garage have informed theGentries that the business is not closing all the locations but instead going through "a comprehensive court-approved sale process...for the entire purpose of achieving a going concern sale of the grocery store business."

Bids have been received for all four locations, including purchase agreements for the Junction and Liberty Village locations as well as one that includes both the Thornhill and Oakville locations "which will continue to operate after the transaction closes."

Lawyers note that the "agreements are subject to court approval" and that a hearing is set for May 2 for when the matter will be heard by the courts.
