Toronto to host candlelight vigil for Orlando victims

A candlelight vigil is planned this evening at 8 p.m. for the victims of the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. In the the worst tragedy of its kind in U.S. history, a single gunman open fired at the gay dance club, killing more than 50 people and leaving many more injured.

The identity of the majority of victims have yet to be revealed, though solidarity has been expressed across the globe in the wake of the tragedy. Despite shock following the events, Toronto's LGBTQ community was quick to organize the silent vigil, which will take place during a month set aside for Pride celebrations.

The gathering will take place at Barbara Hall Park beside the 519 Community Centre. People are invited to "gather with the Toronto Sisters in vigil for the victims and survivors of the Pulse Nightclub shootings. Bring a candle, say a prayer, seek or give comfort. Stand in solidarity with our queer Orlando brothers and sisters."
