King Portland Centre Toronto

Internet darling commits to major King St. development

When the King Portland Centre is complete, it'll give Toronto's King West neighbourhood a makeover. And the RioCan and Allied Properties REIT project looks like it's one step closer to reality now that it has an anchor tenant: Canadian internet darling Shopify Inc.

As the Canadian Press reports, Shopify will lease 112,000 square-feet of space at the King Portland Centre

Shopify, the popular e-commerce platform company that went public last year, is headquartered in Ottawa, but its current Toronto office at Adelaide and Spadina is already drool-worthy thanks to its recreation area (featuring ping pong tables) and spacious open-concept kitchen.

When it opens some time in 2019, the King Portland Centre, designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, will include 12 storeys for offices and 15 for residential units. It'll also feature expansive pedestrian walkways.
