Traffic congestion in Toronto is no laughing matter. And, if you're feeling frustrated while stuck on the DVP or Gardiner Expressway, you're not alone because according to a new study by The 10 and 3, our city has the worst traffic in Canada.

In "How Bad is the Traffic Where You Live?" Zach Gallinger and Arik Motskin used the Google Maps traffic planning tool to see how long trips would take in worst-case versus free-flowing traffic scenarios.

"We call this ratio between the worst-case trip and the free-flow trip the traffic stretch multiplier for that route, and calculate a city's overall traffic stretch by averaging across the different types of routes," write Gallinger and Motskin.

And yes, we have the worst traffic stretch. Trips in Toronto, as the Toronto Star notes, usually take nearly three times longer than they should.

In this study, Montreal and Vancouver ranked second and third, respectively.
