Eglinton Crosstown LRT

What the Crosstown LRT will look like above ground

Metrolinx has been quietly rolling out information related to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT over the last little while, much of which gives a good idea of what the massive infrastructure project will look like when it's complete in 2021 (if we're lucky).

We've already taken a look at how the project will transform the former Kodak lands, but perhaps the most interesting detail to come out of these initial renderings is the picture of what the LRT line will look like when it comes above ground near Leslie St. Rather than going for a drab concrete trackway, the plan is to plant a green bed over which the trains will run for much of the at grade route.

From a design standpoint, this is rather forward-thinking and on par with the attention to detail that numerous European cities have put into their extensive LRT systems. The above ground stations aren't exactly stunning, but they're functional and bright.

One can imagine that these will be very cold places in the midst of winter, but we already knew that would be the case. It's still a long way away, but it looks like the design standards in place for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT are on solid ground.
