What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):

How anyone could be so cruel as to leave a litter of kittens in a plastic bag, for dead [CityNews], is beyond me. Luckily the abandoned newborn felines were discovered by a passerby, who saved them.

Will it be Bombardier or Siemens that scores the huge contract to build over 200 new streetcars [NP] to replace our aging, current fleet? We should know tomorrow. The winner will also likely get the build contract for the proposed 400 more light rail transit vehicles associated with the forthcoming Transit City system expansion projects.

Be prepared for safer driving this coming fall. The Ontario government will be introducing a new law that will make using hand-held mobile devices illegal while driving [G&M]. I can't wait! If I had a dime for every time I passed a driver who was clearly focused on their cell phone rather than their driving, I'd have... well... several dollars, at least.

Try not to drive downtown this coming weekend. The DVP will be closed [CBC], and we all know what that means...

Some business suits got together to talk shop about that second Toronto NHL team proposal [G&M], an idea that seems to still be alive and kicking. Potential locations for the arena include Vaughan, Downsview, and Woodbine - all places that generally require having to drive a car to get there efficiently.

In addition to popular web sites that reveal steals and deals, coupon clipping is making a serious comeback [Star]. I haven't clipped or used one in about forever, but I must say that I do like to take advantage of front page loss-leaders on store flyers.

There are some things you're not allowed to ship from Toronto to Iran, including "pressure transducers" that could potentially be used in the manufacture of nuclear weapons. A man is appearing in a Toronto court, accused of just that. I'm not sure what his defense strategy will be, but I'm going to wager on him claiming to be an amateur meteorologist.
