Good news for TTC riders: at some point in the (not so near, unfortunately) future, we'll be able to use our mobile phones and data devices on the subway. No more sitting on the last car so you can squeeze in a pre-written text message at Old Mill station, asking for that pickup at Kipling, before you lose reception while entering the next tunnel.

Temporary layoffs are coming to GM in Oshawa in February. The news comes in the heels of Toyota's official champagne bottle pop at the opening of a second Southern Ontario plant. Is this strictly a case of the RAV-4 being a better car than the Impala, or should GM be looking to overhaul their entire way of doing business?

Beaches residents are breathing a sigh of relief after police arrested a pair of teens thought to be the serial burglars who struck over 50 homes in the community recently. Prosecutors beware: if the shoes don't fit, you must acquit.

A year-long investigation into the issue of taxi driver misconduct at Union Station has resulted in a bunch of charges and a few drivers facing further scrutiny by the city's licensing tribunal. While I do think it's important to keep players playing by the rules, I'm a little concerned about the fact that 15 city bylaw and Union Station security officers were involved in the one-year investigation.

Ontario MPPs passed a law banning the sale of cigarillo "singles", which look more like candy-flavoured lip gloss than they do like lung-destroying tobacco. The good/bad news (depending on your perspective) is that the product will still be available in 20-packs.

And you know what they say about an apple a day. Research of the University of Guelph (my beloved alma mater) aims to keep Ontario apples fresh longer into the winter season, via controlled atmosphere storage. While it won't replace the need for a flu shot, it may mean that we need to ship in less from places far away.
