Your morning news roundup for Monday January 14th, 2008:

TTC status report (8:26am): "A section of the Yonge-University-Spadina Subway service is currently shut down from Bloor Station to Lawrence Station. Shuttle buses are in service." Happy Monday morning.

An innocent passerby has died after a stray bullet struck him in the head as he walked down Yonge St. The bullet was fired by a man who was ejected from a strip club and was likely meant for the bouncer.

While you're taking off your shoes, tossing that half-drunk bottle of water in the garbage, and showing security how messy your desktop icons are on your Macbook, criminals are potentially taking advantage of gaping holes in security in restricted-access areas of Pearson airport.

In a bid to discourage the removal of healthy trees from both private and city-owned property, Toronto is looking to increase fees and fines for their removal.

There's a smidgen of positive after the recent, horrific collapse of a building on the Danforth. Two days after the incident, one resident's pet cat was found alive and well in the rubble. When cats fall they land on their feet, and when buildings fall, they don't land on cats.

There's a rare, female serial bank robber, who police have dubbed the "Covered Girl Bandit." She's hit up 5 Mississauga banks within the last couple of months and must have a pretty decent home theatre setup by now.

Several arrests have been made in a human trafficking case after a woman from Eastern European revealed to police that she was brought to Toronto to model and instead was forced into sex slavery. You just can't trust anyone offering you an under-the-table modeling job in a foreign country these days, eh?
