"Courier Life" (1999, runs 8mins, contains profanity)

Last week was Bike Week in Toronto, and it was hard not to notice. Ride For Heart was a smashing success this weekend (much to the chagrin of some drivers), cyclists painted exaggerated bike lanes in the Annex in protest (much to the chagrin of some drivers), and the city announced exciting plans for 150 downtown bike lockers (there's a long waiting list already).

Bike Week may also be the reason for the resurrection of this short 1999 documentary about bike couriers in Toronto. The film highlights some of the pros and plenty of the cons of being a courier in the city, delivered via personal stories. I've always figured it was a dangerous job, and my guess is that it hasn't changed much since then. Is there still an ongoing, intense feud between taxi drivers and bike couriers? Have the addition of bike lanes improved the situation since 1999, at all? How has densification from all of the new condominium and commercial spaces affected car and bike traffic in the core?
