Book Scene: Advertising Gone Awry

Harpercollins adds vandal to its list of accomplishments. I refuse to mention to book they're promoting on principle, since their current stance is "well, it worked, didn't it? You're talking about it? See!" The geniuses in marketing decided that spray-painting the street in front of bookstores would be a good way to get the book the attention it deserves. Smooth move, public relations.

To say ciao to the summer reading issue, Toronto Life has an online roundtable of local authors. "Everything about Toronto seemed so humorous to me, because it's not an easily mythologized place. To set a story here seemed so absurd and beautiful." (Sheila Heti).
